Waterford City (Port Láirge) is a bustling important city, full of colour and excitement, with over a thousand years of history.The city is the capital of the beautiful county of Waterford. It is the oldest city in Ireland One of the most scenic counties in Ireland, it encompasses spectacular mountain views as well as miles of unspoiled and safe, golden beaches. Pretty fishing villages and holiday resorts lie along the coastline enhancing its maritime reputation. Waterford city was founded in the 8th century by the Vikings, who settled on a river site called Port Láirge, they renamed it Vadrafjord (hence the English name Waterford). It is rich in terms of its ancient city walls then any town in Ireland.
