"Celtic Roots" Three Day Programme
The
Celtic Roots all-inclusive programme has been carefully planned. We
blend the legendary and the mythical, the humorous and the culinary,
the creative and the ancestral to give you a taste of all aspects of
this wonderful country and to provide a link with its fascinating past.
You need not lift a finger from the moment that you arrive to the second
you leave. We will look after you and pamper you and make sure you have
a wonderful Celtic Experience.
On the Friday evening of your arrival you
are invited to a "welcome and hello" get-together and you will be presented
with a brief background of your Irish name. During your stay with us
our comfortable, modern coach will pick you up in our grounds to take
you sightseeing. We can offer you the following excursions and forms
of entertainment:
Mythological
and Legendary Roots - an excursion where you can see settlements
from 7000BC to the arrival of the Normans in the 12th century, Ogham
Stones, Standing Stones, Dolmens, a Celtic farm, ancient monuments,
megalithic tombs and mythological sites.
In
Touch With the Land of The Ancestors - a trip along Waterford's
beautiful coastline. Shaped by the Celtic sea the coastline boasts miles
of sandy beaches, cliffs, bays and coves, breathtaking scenic sea views
and picturesque villages and towns. You will experience a phenomenon
that will astound you when we stop our coach and let it run backwards
uphill. Seeing is not believing!
The
Leaving - visit a replica of a famine ship. Through interactive
audiovisual technology you can experience how it felt to be on the ship
when it was at sea.
The Connection
- a wonderful trip to the John F. Kennedy homestead and gardens. This
is the birthplace of the great, great grandfather of the ex president
of the USA
On
our Medieval Medley we will take you to
see as many historic buildings as we can, including castles and towers
and ancient city walls.
Diddley
Di, Diddley Dee - An evening when we will take you to a typical
Irish Thatched pub, with a warm fire in the hearth, where you can tip
your toes to the sound of traditional Irish music, and enjoy some famous
Irish pub food. An opportunity to meet the locals.
Crystal
City - no visit to Ireland would be complete without a tour of
the world famous crystal factory and its glittering, gorgeous glass
showrooms.
The
Waterford Show - a night of Irish song, music and dance in the
historical city of Waterford, as a highlight. This is a celebration
of Waterford's Heritage through Music, Song, Irish Dance, and Humor.
This show is a wonderful evenings entertainment in the historical setting
of our beautiful city hall. A lovely highlight.
Kilkenny
Castle is one of the most instantly recognised buildings in Ireland,
Kilkenny Castle has been an important site since Strongbow constructed
the first building a wooden tower in the 12th century. William the Earl
Marshall built the first stone castle on the site in 1260. This was
a square-shaped castle with towers at each corner; three of these original
four towers survive to this day.
Jerpoint
Abbey, one of the finest Cistercian monastic ruins in Ireland,
was built around 1160 by the King of Ossory, Donal MacGillapatrick,
for the Benedictine monks. It was self-contained, and included its own
gardens, watermills, infirmary, cemetery, kitchens, granary, stables
and other outbuildings.
In
between outdoor excursions to wonderful places you will enjoy sampling
our delicious Irish cuisine in our local traditional pubs and restaurants.
We will tell you the background to Ireland's famous dishes then you
will have an opportunity to try some of them. Lunch will be enjoyed
